I teach because I love sharing my movement practice and the things I learn about dance with others. I believe dance is meant to be shared and bring communities of people together as one.

Below is a list of dance genres/classes I focus on exploring in my own movement and choreographic practices, and also feel most content teaching/sharing.

Social Justice Movement Workshop (Various Focuses)

This workshop will have a focus on one social justice topic (i.e. privilege, homophobia, classicism, stereotyping, etc.) It also contains three key elements: experiential exercise, dialogue, and movement reflection. In the experiential exercise, students will lighty experience the social justice issue from a new perspective. Students will then dialogue with the group about how this experience made them think, feel, and understand the issue. Lastly, students will individually create a short movement phrase to reflect and express what this workshop meant to them. My work in this dance workshop comes from my studies and research through the major I designed at The University of Maryland titled “Social Change Through Dance”.

Modern Technique

This class takes students through a physical dance practice combining elements of improvisation and exercises that concentrate on specific parts of the body (i.e. feet, legs, pelvis, torso, arms, etc.) Students will have the opportunity to dive further into movement research through phrase work that combines all of the material covered in class. We will also explore how musicality and rhythm play a role in our dancing. When it comes to this genre/class, my teaching is heavily influenced by my cultural background, as well as my experience with modern dance technique at The University of Maryland.

GG Lab

This class guides students through multiple improvisation techniques (i.e. using written prompts and visual aids) to help stimulate what they are visualizing into movement. As a class we will explore various ways of moving and provide feedback to help each student effectively structure movement (i.e. changing qualities of movement, clarifying transitions, etc.) to their artistic vision and intent. For this class, student’s will need a notebook and pen. All types of dancers and movement genres are invited into this class!

Mobility and Stretch

This class takes students through a series of light exercises that primarily aid injury prevention, open the body for expansive range, and longevity of the body. We will focus on warming and stretching major muscle groups, joints, and ligaments, as well as parts of the body that students are struggling with the most. My teaching is heavily influenced by my studies at The University of Maryland in integrating movement and dance into the anatomy of the body

I also teach other movement genres, privately and to groups (i.e. companies, teams, dance studios, etc.). If this is of interest to you, please click here to connect with me!
