milk&honey was inspired by Rupi Kaur’s book of poems milk and honey. Grant and Ahmed’s dance work combined elements of poetry, live music, and dance movement to tell the story of various couples at different stages in their personal experiences with relationships. The piece was divided into 4 parts: The Loving, The Breaking, The Hurting, and The Healing. These are the same stages Kaur’s book is divided into, but Grant and Ahmed ordered the stages differently in their work. Their goal was to explore how the emotions experienced in these stages can be translated into movement. The purpose of the work was to share each couple’s personal take in that stage of a relationship and how that looks different for each couple.
