.no rain no flowers

.no rain no flowers - originally written May 21, 2023

This weekend I was chasing the bag, working a retail pop-up event (boooooooooo) and one of the customers came in with a very dainty tattoo that immediately (well almost) caught my eye. It said “NO RAIN NO FLOWERS”. At first, I read it like an old lady meme “No rain… no flowers… ???” Then I was like, “OHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

Storms typically occur within a season, and in some climates they are a season of their own. Rain storms can be so dangerous that they cause flash floods, create a hazard for people while they are driving, cause us to slip and fall, etc. - it goes without saying, but to really drive it home, it makes our lives one million (yes, exactly one million) times harder. HOWEVER, rainy seasons are inevitable, unavoidable, good for the earth, and mirror our lives. Our lives have rainy seasons. Not only do they, but our lives were intentionally designed for us to have these seasons. But rainy seasons are not to our detriment, they are for our development.

Storms make our lives harder, but they don’t make our lives impossible. As humans, we are resilient, strong, courageous, all of the things. We CAN and are designed to weather storms; think about yourself as a flower. Flowers need water to grow and when their seeds are outside during rainstorms, their seeds will be watered without them even knowing it or planning it. Then, as the rainy season starts to die down, a stem and leaves will root up from the ground. And as the sun starts to peak out on a more consistent basis, the flower will bloom. Now I want to bring your attention back to a step in this process: our seeds will be watered without knowing it or planning it. This is the most challenging aspect of our growth - we don’t choose when it’s time for our seeds to be watered. We don’t even know what’s ahead for our purpose, plan, and promise, so when the Universe, God, Yahweh, whomever you acknowledge, says it’s time for you to grow, it’s because something significant is ahead of the storm, thus you must be put through a rainy season to grow and be prepared for when that significant something comes. But unfortunately, as self-sabotaging humans, we freak out and step back and resist. But I am encouraging you to not resist. You are being called to step closer to a door that’s open for you, but only if you step out into the rainstorm FIRST. Do you wanna pull up to your next open door as a muddy seedling in the ground? NOOOOOO!!!!!!! You wanna pull up looking like the baddest flower in the valley, flowers petals blowing in the wind, stem strong and sturdy, and leaves giving pigmentation. And the gag is, you won’t have to try to grow, you just will. Don’t add to your own detriment, and feed insecurity and fear by not stepping out into that rainstorm. Focus on weathering the storm and leave the rest up to the powers above.
